Kevin,
I noticed your inquiries on this message board and thought I would let you know what I have on the Black-Woody connection. I currently live in Oklahoma and have done some research on the various Black lineages that have lived in this state. I have no record of a Cecil Black married to a Bessie Woody. In fact, the only Bessie that I have any record of who married a Black is a Bessie M. who was married to Eddie W. Black and lived near Rush Springs, Grady County, Oklahoma. This Bessie was born 9 August 1910 and died on 1 January 1985. Eddie W. Black was born on 5 June 1905 and died 29 June 1985. Both Bessie and Eddie are buried in the Rush Springs Cemetery. Also buried in this cemetery are a number of individuals with the Woody surname including James W. Woody (b. 22 February 1893 and d. 24 January 1970) and his wife Minnie (b. 13 March 1895 and d. 8 October 1965). It is rare to find an Oklahoma location that has both the Black and Woody families living during the same !
time frame. There are a few Blacks in the Eldorado, Jackson County, Oklahoma area but I have never seen the name Cecil Black mentioned. I believe that one or more Black families moved from Texas to Jackson County, Oklahoma in the late 1880s or early 1900s. One of these families was that of Jessie Black and Laura Ella Bennett Black. The genealogical web sites covering Jackson County, Oklahoma are not very complete so it will be difficult to find all the records you need without spending time in Jackson County looking through records. Hope someone reading your inquiries will have the answers you need.
