1850 Ga. Census, Walker Co., Peavine are shows CYRUS R. BLACK 23, MECHANIC B.TENN. with wife Mahala 19 b. S.C., son Virgil 2 b. Ga 1857 Titus Co., Tx. tax records shows a C.R. BLACK with 1 ac. valued at $100 of the Allen Urquhart grant, Burtons Cr. Block 29 valued at $300; Lot 5 Block 25 valued at $150; 1858 shows 1/2 ac. same grant and Lot 5 Bl. 25. The Allen Urquhart grant is the town of Daingerfield in then Titus Co. (now Morris Co., Tx.) Morris co. Gen. Index to deed LDS Fill 1435334 shows a grant from C.R. Black to W. S. Steadhaur in June 1857, Book C p. 473? or 493?. Titus Co., Texas 1860 census of Daingerfield shows: C.R. Black 32 cabinet miller? b. Tenn. wife Mary 25 b. Ala. son Virgil 10 b. Ga., dau. Adlin 9 b. Ga. and son Wm. 6 b. Texas. Later 1880 Franklin Co., Tx. (former Titus Co.) ED 34 p. 44D shows Virgil Black age 30 b. Ga., wife Martha 20 b. Tx. and son William 6/12 b. Dec. Tx.
Could Cyrus R. Black's first wife have been Mahala Satterfield? The Satterfields are next to Cyrus in the Walker Co. census. The birth of Wm. in Texas corresponds to the Satterfield's move to Texas. Mahala had a sister Adaline and her father's name was William which fits the kids. Mary Black looks like a perhaps a new wife in the 1870 Titus Co. census. Would like to find out what happened to Virgil, son of Mahala and Cyrus listed in the Ga. census who seems to be the same Virgil in Texas in the 1880 Franklin Co. census. Thanks!
