I have found who I believe to be the son of my ancestor, Cornelius Norton and Sarah Rasco, in Upshur Co., TX in 1860. This is Varnel Norton, born c 1838-1840. Near to him is Jos. or Jas, Johnson and his wife, Jane, born c. 1834, GA. This is the info that I found in Upshur Co., GA, 1860 census:

Jos Barnwell, 30, GA
Saml, 24, GA
Varnel Norton, 22, GA
N. Bishop, M, GA
Louisa, 5, GA
Elizabeth, 3, GA
Jessabelle or Issabelle Fawlkner, 9, GA

1860 Census Upshur Co., TX, Layfayette P.O., Page 433B, HH# 623:

Jas Johnson, 27, ? (Name could be Jos-Joseph?)
Jane, 27, GA
Frances Fowler, 6, GA
Rebecca, 4, TX
Saul Johnson, 1, TX


I believe this Jane to be Jane Norton, sister to Varnel Norton and to my ancestor, Andrew Jackson Norton. It appears that Varnel may have been in the 17th Consolidated Texas Dismounted Cavalry, Co. K as a Private, and that he may have died in service. I have not found a marriage for him.

I have found Jane Johnson in Navarro Co., TX with a Sarah Norton in the household listed as "mother", age 74, born in NC. This does appear to be Sarah Rasco Norton. This is the info that I found:
