Hi Barbara,
I have some info. on Abel Black also. He married my 3rd Gr.Grandmother who was Charity Jane Baze, Ross. She also went by the name of Charlotte Black. She is on the 1860 Barry Co.Mo. census as that. She was not a Jones at all. It was an oversight by the marriage recorder as her middle name was Jane and they failed to add her last name. Her maiden name was Baze. You can find her on the 1850 Barry Co. Mo. district 5 census living with her mother and father. But, also they put down her parents surnames as Boyd instead of Baze. But, you will find them under the surname Boyd in 1850 census. Her father was Abednego Baze and her mother was Mary Shults Baze. It also shows that Abel Black was in the Baze household with his 2 daughters at the same time that Charity was living with them with her 3 children already she had by James Ross...Their children were....
John Alexander Ross-b. 1843.....Barry Co. Mo.(myGrGrGrandfather)
Hiram McDonnel Ross-b. 1845....Barry Co. MO. died at age 17. no family
Sarah Jane Ross-b. 1847/48.....Barry Co. Mo. married a man by the last name of Willoughby. No more info. on her.
Charity and Abel were married May 30, 1852 at Cassville, Barry Co. Mo. I have more info. I would love to share with you what you have. I have been searching for the parents of James Ross forever it seems.
