I'm not sure if this is a connection or not...do any of these names relate to Jane? My grandfather's father was born in Missouri, possibly East St. Louis. His name was William Lee Black. I'm sure he had sisters. The dates fit. My grandfather's grandfather's name was Joseph Black, who was married to Rachel Crane. Joseph was Pennsylvania Scot, was settled in Kentucky, then Nebraska, then Missouri. He built carriages and later became a cabinet maker.
So here's how it goes:

Joseph Black married Rachel Crane
Son William Lee Black married Josephine Mariner
Had Son Ernest Lee Black, who married Gladys Swan/
