I've been researching the Blacks for a few years now. My line (in Mass and Maine) came from Ireland. It has been my experience when helping out others researching the Blacks down south, they have emigrated from Ireland and Scotland, some England. Also, Germany..in these cases, the name was originally something like "Blach" and Americanized to Black. Your family in Georgia could be from any one of these places. The easiest way to find out, depending on the time period, it to check the early censuses, In certain years, they list the place of birth for the individual, plus their parents, year of immigration.
