Gayle, My brother Bill is the real geneologist of the family. Forwarded your note to hime and he replied, "That one about Eckman and Armstrong is an "A" list clue but only because
of two other facts I know. JAB II went to Armstrong with his kids for a while (after his wife left him?) and I had seen a federal census where there were Blacks and Stoneciphers (spelled correctly) that were wagon makers from that same area. Why don't you see what they know of the
JAB I line? Bill"
Who we're calling James Alexander Black I was born 7/17/1833 in Carrroll County, Ohio. Bill has him married to a Margaret Webster with children Emma, George, Evanna, James Alexander II, Jesse, Wille, Charles (our g-gf), Ephram Stonecipher and lastly Mary. The JAB II was born 9/7/1862 in Steubenville, Jefferson County Ohio.
Apparently, the Blacks & Stoneciphers were good friends and business partners in that wagon wheel business. If you have any other details please contact me directly at
Thank you for all your assistance and time!
Chuck Black
