Ms. Black:
I have a Malissa Jane/Melissa Jane shown as the daughter of George William Northam and Mary E. [Otts] Brown Northam.
I have no information that Mary E. [Otts] Brown was of Indian ancestry. There is a website that has an Otts family tree outline on it. I believe I have that URL and will be happy to send it to you-if you do not already have it.
The only Census Record I have of this female is the one for 1880 Lamar Co., AL, copied as follows:
====
**1880 - Lamar Co., AL, TWP 13, Range 14;
V. 11; ED 128; Sht.21; L.45
Northam, G. W. - w - m - 26 - Ala
-------, Mary - w - 26 Ala
-------, Newton - s - 7 - Ala
-------, M. J. - d - 5 - Ala
-------, Thos. - s - 3 - Ala
-------, Laura - d - 3/12 - Ala
I have a further notation that she d. 1920, Walker Co., AL, but I do not have the source for the information in my notes.
Please note: another researcher has her middle name as Jan.
I have not done any further research on her.
I do not have verification that the M. J. Northam listed on the above mentioned 1880 Lamar Co., AL is actually Malissa/Melissa Jane/Jan Northam. I am simply stating what information I presently have.
If you have found any more information that you would be willing to share, I would love to hear from you.
