Hi Linda, I am researching a Charles E. Black, born Apr. 1861. He married Elcy Mariah Canode. They had 2 children, William Edward and Walter Jennings Black. Walter has a few children still living and she has been giving me information. She says information she has on Charles is that he was listed as an orphan, born in VA. and raised by an Adkins family. She says that he talked about an older brother John who was maybe 10 yr. older than Charles who lived in or around Iron Gate and worked for the railroad. I cant get an leads on why Charles was orphaned, it his parents died or anything.. Would love to find someone that may have information on him. There were only a few Black families in the early Botetourt Co. Census and I assume he probably descended from one of them.
