The following obit is here with permission of the Challis Messenger in Challis, Idaho.
Lillian Edwina Black
Lillian Edwina Black, 97, of Grangeville, formerly of Wendell, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 3, 2002. She passed away at the Grangeville Care and Rehabilitation Center in Grangeville of causes related to age.
Lillian was born on June 8, 1904 at Albion, Idaho a daughter of Calvin and Maria Powell Young. She married Ralph M. Black on May 2, 1921 in Challis. Together they had three children. They also raised a granddaughter.
She was the sunbeam in our lives. She was always there in time of need, not only for her own family, but for many other families as well. A time is never remembered when someone showed up at suppertime that they were not welcomed and there was always enough food to go around.
She was truly an Angel sent from God and he was kind enough to share her with us for 97 years.
She was of quick wit and loved life and those who shared it with her. She was an avid "fisherlady" and loved the outdoors, especially long drives in the mountains.
For several years she spent her winters in Florida. She was a resident of Wendell for over 30 years. She was also a 50 + year member of the Rebekah Lodge and a Gold Star mother of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Ralph, Jr. and Dick Calvin.
She is survived by her daughter, Lillian (Scotty) MacFee of Wendell; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Black of Jerome; her granddaughters, Carolyn (Dave) Isenhart of Grangeville, Tami (Alan) Baun of Boise, Tonya (Dan) Aguirre of Spokane, WA, Judy (Jim) Holden of Challis and Gerri Wellard of Lava Hot Springs; her grandsons, Ralph "Buster" (June) MacFee of Blackfoot, Les (Kay) MacFee of Mebane, NC, John (Gerry) Phillips of Challis, Dick Black and Roger Black; 22 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her many friends in Florida.
Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain Valley Baptist Church in Challis with Pastor Allen Lusby of Mountain Shadows Baptist Church in Grangeville officiating. Burial will follow at the Challis Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church prior to the services. Services are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home, Grangeville.
Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are.
