The "Blacks" on my tree were from Ireland and Scotland. What area of the country are you looking at? From my experience, Blacks on the east coast were almost always from the U.K. Have you look at familysearch.com yet? (LDS website) There are many Francis Marion Blacks listed there, and in somecases go back a few generations with their info. The only Elizabeth Cupler I saw was spelled "Kuppler", in the NYC area.
