Thanks for the info. That's all very interesting. My Grandfather, Tyles Reed was born in Indiana in 1893. His wife, my Grandmother told me when I was about 12 years old that his mother, Elizabeth Black was Sioux. I saw a picture of her with long dark braids and she looked full. I've often wondered if Reed was as Indian name also. Things would make more sense too. I've run into a dead end with Black because my Grandfather's death certificate says birthplace unknown, which I'm told was common for Indian births back then. I'll continue to research both names as possibilities. Do you have information on the names of your Cherokee Reed? The only Reeds I have located with my great grandfather and mother's names, Elijah and Elizabeth, do not appear to be related to Tyles Reed. Good luck with your search. I've printed your message in case I run across the names Frances Jane Black and James Robert Brown.
