George Black was the grandson of Dr. William Black. One person that knows something of the Blacks is Connie Black Draper. Here is her e-mail address: "". She should be able to help you prabably more than I can. But here is what I have, an excerpt from my McDowell stuff, as far as the Blacks marrying into my McDowell line:


I. JOHN MCDOWELL, SR. was born 12 August 1759 in Glenmellion Co. Antrim, Ireland, and died Abt. 1841.

BARBARA ELIZABETH HENRY, born 1761 in County Antrim, Ireland, and died Abt. 1845. Rev. Wm. Henry White said the McDowells were of Scotch-Irish descent. From Bible of Mary McDowell Black. John McDowell, Sr. was born in Glenmellion County, Antrim, Ireland. The ship that he came over on was named "Margaret". and landed at Charleston, South Carolina in 1793 or 1794(Great Grandfather Wm. Henry white said it was in 1796). He served as an elder in Fairforest
Presbyterian Church. Session 14 July 1842 adopted a resolution about him, Mathew Mayes and Samuel Morrow. The
McDowells settled in Union County, South Carolina near the present David Henry McDowell house.
ISSUE:
1. Mary McDowell, was born 03 August 1790 in Glenmellion, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and died 25 February 1875
in Pacelot Mills, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.

William Black, b. 4/13/1789 in Penn.--died 3/10/1829 in Union Co., S.C. (Married abt. 1811 in Rock Hill, Spartanburg County, South Carolina). He was the son of Alexander Black and Isabella Wilson. He was born 13 April 1789 in Pennsylvania, and died 10 March 1829 in Union County, South Carolina.

C. Sarah Jane Black, b. 9/15/1815--d. 9/2/1871-m-William White, b.11/22/1815-d.12/29/1884, son of John W. and Agatha
"Gibbs" White, daughter of William & Mary McDowell Black. Buried Fair Forest Cem.. They had one son, Willie, sho died
suddenly at age fifteen. Sarah never got over his death.
D. John Alexander Black, b. 1/27/1818--d. 2/10/1910-m-(1)Amanda Caro. Kirby.(2nd wife)Eliz. Campbell Black.
E. William Wilson Black, b. 10/7/1820--d. 9/18/1962-m-Malinda Almarine Hasseltine Haleburton. Caddo Parish, Louisiana.
F. David McDowell Black, b. 12/17/1822--d. 12/9/1864 in Va.(Civil War?).
G. Templeton Thomas Black, b. 12/25/1824--d. 9/2/1874-m-Catherine Rachel McDowell, B.12/23/1825( she was his 1st cousin, the daughter of Henry and Dorcas Foster McDowell); issue(migrated to Cherokee Co., Tex..): (g1) Joseph Black, (g2) Templeton G. Black, (g3) Mary Black-m-J. E. Francis in tx., wound up in Ft. Worth, Tex., (g4) W. F. Black-m-Bessie Ware, daughter of Susan Ware and granddaughter of Adeline Wyatt. Wound up in Dallas, Tex., he becoming a lawyer.
H. Hanna Dorcas Black, b. 9/23/1825--d. 1/25/1854-m-David Brown Miller on 25 Jan 1853 in Union County, SC.; issue:
(h1) David Hannah Miller, b. 10/22/1853 in Rock Hill, S.C.--d. 2/22/1942 in West Springs, Union County, SC. Buried at Fairforest. David H. Miller mar'd Mary McDowell Mayes, b. 7/24/1851 in West Springs--d. 1/17/1935, buried at Fairforest cem.; issue: (h1a) Hannah Elizabeth Miller b. 9/7/1877--d. 11/23/1948. Hannah mar'd Young Ezra Holcomb on 26 Dec 1908. He was born 5/11881--d. 6/28/1964, buried at Fairforest; issue: (h1a1) Mary Sue Holcomb who married the Keith, (h1a2) Mary Dorcas Miller born 8 Nov 1885 and 8 Dec 1962 and she is buried at Fairforest. As far as I know she didn't marry.
I. Mary Ann Black born 9/2/1827--d. 8/28/1897-m-George McCarter McDowell on 3/22/1859 in Union County, SC., b.
10/22/1832 and died 10/22/1862 in Richmond, Va. in the Civil War; issue: (i1) David Henry McDowell, b. 10/16/1860--d.
7/18/1905, buried at Fairforest.

That is all the info that I have on the Blacks.
