Dewie Black's family is in Rowan Co. KY. My ancestor Calvin Black was born in Rowan Co., NC or the vicinity. Our family tradition says my gggf Calvin's wife was named Betty and their son James Madison Black was born 1 Jan 1870 (obit and death cert., 1869 on tombstone). Also, that he had a sister who married an Adderton, a half brother Cicero and a brother Robert Lee (b. May 1874 and lived in Chicago, 1900)
The 1870 Rowan Co., NC census(pg 29, Dw 216, H 213) has the following persons (all with surname Black) listed: Amanda-28, Elizabeth-22, Linza-13, Cicero-11, Nancy-9, Cornelia-9, James-2, Calvin-37, millwright, died Nov of typhoid fever.
My ggf's sister or half-sister Mary Cornelia Black m. John Stephen Adderton on 18 April 1862. Their family bible includes an entry: "J. M. Black was borned Jan. 11, 1870".
A Calvin M. Black m. Mary Rebecca Kerr on 14 July 1862 at Rowan Co., NC. From the McCubbin's papers and the 1850 Cabarrus Co. NC census, this Calvin, age 9 in 1850, was the son of Samuel-35 and Judith Black-31.
A Calvin Black, age 19, is also listed on the 1850 Davidson Co., NC census(pg 349, Dw479 H490) in a family head by Barsheba Black, age 41. I think she may have been the second wife of George Black (m. 14 March 1844). George's first wife may have been Nancy Curtis (m. 9 Oct 1816, Randolph Co., NC). Nearby neighbors are John and Jeramiah Adderton.
Thanks for any leads or help you can provide to help me solve this puzzle.
