I recently researched the 1861 census for Gainsbough, Ontario and Alexander is still listed with his parents. His age is listed as 15. So he was born in 1845 or 1946, in Scotland, probably Aberdeenshire, and he died in 1913, 1914 or 1915, in Michigan. Just a couple of more clues.
