I have the Blue Book and have been to several Michigan family reunions; my contact was Martha Fidler and is now her sister Betsy Jones.
I am very sure the Rev War vet Samuel Black is Harvey's father. Yes, he was that old on the 1850 census! Further, I believe his daughter Roxana wed to a FELTON (maybe other names before?) and then to Luther SMITH in Huron Co, Ridgefield Twp, Ohio. Samuel Black lived with this family in Lenawee Co, MI (I think its Lenawee?)
In extensive tracing by Lola and Larry Whetstone (our cousins in Kansas who attended MI reunions with me) we know that Harvey Black had a sister whose grandchild was Lois Lattimer. I traced her mother Theresea thru 4 husbands and the first was Horlocker, send Lattimer (In Ohio), Roxanna Smith of Blissfield, Leneawee Co, MI is listed as a creditor when Theresea Lattimer (now DEWEY) is closing estate of her deceased husband Tim (on census, Thersea has a daughter Lois). Why would Roxanna loan Tim Lattimore money (about $500) if he wasn't wed to her daughter or family in some way. It's pretty strong circumstantial eveidence.
There are also land records in Lenawee Co, showing land transactions between Samuel Black and Luther SMITH. Why would Samuel be involved unless it was his daughter Roxanna wed to Luther Smith (or some family) Why would he be living with them unless he was some family...again strong circumnstantial records.
I wish I could get a lead half as good on Oliver Powers and her family!
