I will go through my stuff in the next day or so and see if I can find something that could verify your information one way or the other.
As far as the 1891 census I believe you can get it at the Archives on Wellington Street in Ottawa. I'm not sure where else in Ontario you might find it. I would imagine in Toronto for example, it would also be available somewhere.
Do you have the names of John Black's parents?
