Sorry I didn't reply sooner--computer was unplugged while room was being redone. The only James Black I have records for founded Mercersburg--purchased the land from Indians for a gun and a string of beads in 1730. He was son of John and Jane Black. I don't believe James had any heirs; in his will (at NC), dated 1776, he left everything to a nephew, the Rev. John Black. I do have info on a James (b.1740 or 1749) who married a Ruth and moved from the Delaware/Phila. area to Westmoreland County, if you're interested. Sorry I could't help you otherwise.
