MRS. J.J. BLACK DIED YESTERDAY
Was Devoted Christian Woman and Numbered Her Friends By The Score

Mrs. Polly Black, wife of Mr. J.J. Black, of Chick Springs township; died
at her home early yesterday, after a sudden illness of heart disease. Aged
72 years.

Mrs. Black was reared in this county, being a daughter of the late David
Gunter, a prominent citizen of this county, in his day. Mrs. Black was
a woman who counted her friends by all who knew her, as she was endowed
with the many beautiful traits of Christian character which she exemplified
in her daily life.

Mrs. Black was a devoted Christian woman; since her early years she has
been a member of Mountain Creek church and her funeral services will be
held there today at 11 oclock.

A sad circumstance in connection with her death was that 50 years ago,
lacking a month and two days, she became a happy bride, and arrangements
were being perfected to celebrate that event, by their golden wedding,
May 14, next; but God in his wisdom ruled otherwise, and her disconsolate
husband is left to mourn his loss.

Besides her husband she is survived by her son, Sloan D. Black, and two
daughters, Mrs. Matilda Phillips and Mrs. Leila Barton, all of this county.

*** Her gravestone reads Dearest Mother Thou Hast Left Us, And Thou
Loss We Deeply Feel
