Bob: I was hoping for a connection as a lot of the names were in common.
My GGrandfather Charles Black was born in Ireland in 1846. His fathers
name was John Black born in 1823 and his mother was Elizabeth Morrison
born in 1831. Both of them were born in Ireland. Sometime about 1850 all
of this family immigrated to Scotland and settled in Dundee. In 1866 Charles
married my GGrandmother Margaret Roberts, who was born in Scotland. They
had 3 children in Scotland: James, Ann and Jane. Ann died as an infant.
In 1872 Charles and family immigrated to the U.S. and they settled in leominister
Massachuttes. In Leominister they had 6 more children; John, Lena, Thomas,
Charles Edward, Esther Catherine and Margaret. Sometime between 1881 and
1884 they moved to Detroit Michigan where they had 3 more children; Lida,
Walter and Orpah. Their son John married a girl named Orpah who had immigrated
from Canada. They had a daughter named Lena Belle who married Howard Herrick
and they had a son named Gordon who was born on June 21, 1918 in Michigan.
I believe that their son Gordon lived in Odessa, Texas but I have not followed
that link completely yet. If you or anyone else does see a connection with
this family, I have a lot more information to share.
