I am also related to this BLACK family through James BLACK, son Peter BLACK,
son E. Mark BLACK, and his daughter Nannie Isabelle BLACK, who married Ralph
Scurry TOWLES of Edgefield. My belief is that James and wife Mollie came from
Augusta Co., VA, although I have not positively identified my James BLACK
there yet. I also have a relationship in my family from the CARSON family of
Edgefield, James CARSON's daughter Eunice married Thomas BERRY, Sr. as his
second wife and had (among others) Sivil Ann BERRY, b. April 1819 in
Edgefield Co., who married Josiah LANGLEY also of Edgefield. I believe the
HARDY family lived close to the TOWLES family in Culpeper, now Madison Co.,
VA and probably left VA for SC around 1766 when the TOWLES did. Perhaps the
James BLACK we are looking for lived in that vicinity also, but I have not
found him there in my research so far. I would be happy to share what I do
have on the BLACK family of Augusta Co. Regards, Keith
