Surname: Black, Carson, Abney, Hardy
-------------------------

Mark Black (b abt 1795 d 9 Jul 1871 Edgefield District, SC) m abt 1817
Nancy Carson (b abt 1797 d 19 Feb 1845 Edgefield District, SC) daughter
of James Carson (b 1756 VA d bef 24 Jul 1820 Edgefield District, SC) and
wife Sarah Ann Abney (b 18 Mar 1759 Augusta, VA d 24 Jul 1820 Edgefield
District, SC).

There is a strange coincidence in my family in its connections to the Black
family. My grandfather's name was Jacob Wilson HARDY (b 3 Oct 1853 Edgefield
District, SC d 7 Feb 1932 Washington, DC). He married Nancy Margaret Long
(b 26 Feb 1858 Edgefield District, SC d 12 Sep 1948 Washington, DC).

The name JACOB WILSON appears in earlier generations of the Black family,
but I have not been able to find even a hint of it in the Hardy family.
This tells me there was an earlier connection in the Hardy family to the
Black family and I personally think it occurred in either Virginia (maybe
Augusta County) or Pennsylvania.

My father was named for his Long forebear, but his brother was named ERIC,
which is also a Black given name which never shows up in the early Hardy
family. Can anyone give me any clues to go on?

Did you ever find the Hardy family in Viriginia or Pennsylvania living
close to the Black family, or married into in either direction? The Blacks
supposedly came to Edgefield and Newberry Districts from the forks of the
Brandywine River. Adam, Margaret and Mary were in Newberry District by
1772 and 1773 when they received land on Cannons Creek and near Crims Creek.

Has anyone been tracing the Virginia to Pennsylvania Hardy OR Black families
and seen the name JACOB WILSON or the name ERIC?
