-------------------------
In "The Heritage of Walker County, Alabama", there are stories about four
BLACK brothers, Archibald, Samuel, John and Nathan, who moved from Florida
to North Carolina, then on to Alabama. They were born between 1799 - abt
1820, and Nathan went on tho Texas.
Of those brothers, John, born 1818, lived in Mississippi for several years,
and had at least eight children. He appears in the Walker County census
in 1850, 1860 and 1880, but some of his children were born in Mississippi.
John's wife is listed as Frances "Fannie" Barton, and the eight children
they had were Nathaniel, Alexander, Elijah, Robert, John, Mary Ann, James
Moses, and Elbert Spencer.
While I don't know if this is your line (or mine, for that matter), some
of it may or may not ring a bell. If so, let me know and I'll get you more
information.
