Surname: Black, Dimmick
-------------------------
The only reason I mention that Joseph Penn Black's father was from KY is
that is was noted on the 1880 fed. census of Madison Co., IL. I guess its
possible the family could have migrated from NY to Ky and on to IL. I have
a distant cousin who beleives that our family name of Black derived from
a different name such as Blackstone or Blacksmith. Joseph Penn Black lived
in Jo Daviess Co., the township of Apple River from about 1860 to about
1877. I have come across the Jo Daviess County, IL Will Book A, 1850 -
1863 where, on page45, Joseph P. Black was noted as a witness along with
George Frost, to the will of Stephan F. Blackston dated December 13, 1860,
proved May 20, 1863. There again I have nothing to substianciate that there
is any family connection. Also, in the same book on page 23 there is a
mention of $1000 given to Henry F. Black of Wisconsin in Henry Rablin'
will but, it also states "no relationship given". The only reason I am
mentioning this is that I know Joseph Penn Black married Lucy Jane Dimmick
in White Oak Springs, Wis. in 1854 and was a redisent of Monticello, Wis.
until sometime before 1860 where he appears in the 1860 Jo Daviess Co.
fed census. If the age on the census is correct Joseph Penn Black would
have been about 22 when he married. I have not been able to connect Joseph
Penn Black with any family names before his marriage to Lucy Jane Dimmick.
Please let me know if any of the above info. connects with your family.
