Terry M. BLACK, 63, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at Crooked River Ranch in Terrebonne, Ore.
The memorial services are planned and will be announced at a later date.
Mr. BLACK was born May 12, 1937, in Escondido, to Dr. Howard L . and Gloria BLACK. After the death of his parents his guardians were his uncle, Hugh H. BLACK. of Paso Robles, who preceded him in death.
A Paso Robles business owner for 27 years, he owned Black Oak Richfield from 1958 to 1963, and Paso Robles Tire Co. from 1963 to 1984. He was a rancher in Cayucos. from 1984 to 1996, when he retired to Crooked River Rancch in Terrebonne, Ore.
Mr. BLACK spent his Paso Robles business years actively involved in community work. He was a member of the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce, serving as director for two terms and was a member of the Chamber Economic Development Committee. He was chairman of the Highway Committee and was part of the committee that saw construction of Highway 46 between Highways 101 and 1 become a reality. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Paso Robles Fire Department.
Mr. BLACK was responsible for the elimination of parking meters in downtown Paso Robles, his family says, and served on the downtown tree-planting project. Also active in civic groups, he was president of the local JayCees and senator to JayCee International. He was president of Paso Robles Lions Club and later served as a director. He enjoyed years as an active member of the local Trailriders, where he also served as president.
He loved to hunt and fish and in recent years became skilled at woodworking, crafting hope chests, wine chests, shelves and patio chairs for friends and family.
He married Carroll BEAUDOIN in 1957, and they had four children who survive him, son Kent H. BLACK, wife Robin and granddaughter Haley of Woodland Hills; daughter Brenda L. DE BELLIS, husband Michael and grandson Dominic of Paso Robles; daughter Sherril S. ROTH and grandchildren Kala and J. T. of Paso Robles; and son Michael H. BLACK of Lincoln, Neb.
He is also survived by Kaarin CLARKE of Widbey Island, Wash. whom he married in 1983; stepdaughted Pamela CLARK and her children Amanda DUNTON and Scott DUNTON of San Luis Obispo and stepson David CLARKE of Malibu; and brother Howard P. BLACK of Salida; and a nephew and two nieces.
