Surname: Black
-------------------------
I am trying to find the ancestors of William Black of Missouri. He was
New Mexico by 1850. In 1851, he applied to marry Juana Mara Chvez. I
am still waiting for the wedding investigation, but in "New Mexico Roots"
by Father A. Chvez, on the 19 January 1851 in Socorro, Julin Blax, age
24, native of the United States, son of Peter Pailry and Selis Noran (both
names hard to decipher), and Juana Mara Chvez, age 18, daughter of Jos
Doroteo Chvez and Mara Isabel Sedillo. Witnesses: Santiago Hartley, age
25, Nolean Blax, age 43, both native of the United States, farmers and
married.
In New Mexico, the non-Hispanic people would change their given names into
Spanish, as Julin translates into William, Santiago into James, Guillermo
into William. Blax is how the priest spelled the surname Black.
Julin (William) Black and Juana Mara Chvez had two children, before
he was killed by Apachs. Their son, Guillermo Black married his second
and third cousin, Mauricia Chvez, daughter of Juan Nepomoceno Chvez and
Juana Maria Garca on 19 Nov 1878 in Socorro. As his father, Guillermo
was also killed by the Apachs. His children moved to California before
WWII.
Julin and Juana Mara's daughter, Ana Black married Anselmo Melendres,
natural son of Simona Carrera on 27 November 1878 in Socorro County. Their
children moved down to Doa Ana County, New Mexico.
Any info is welcomed.
