Surname: Black, Dimmick
-------------------------
I am searching for the parents and siblings of JOSEPH PENN BLACK born around
1832 in IL. Per the 1870 census, his father was from KY and mother was
from OH. I have no other information on his parents. What I know of Joseph
is as follows: In 1850-51 JOSEPH PENN BLACK traveled from Illinois area
to California and made his fortune in the gold mines around Murphy, Ca.
JOSEPH PENN BLACK came back to IL. area and married LUCY JANE DIMMICK in
White Oak Springs, Wis. in January 1854. The marriage cert states that
Joseph was a farmer from Monticello. No metion of parents names on the
cert. Joseph & Lucy had 2 children born in Wisconsin before 1860. Joseph
& Lucy lived in Apple River, IL (Jo Daviess County) in 1860. JOSEPH PENN
BLACK went to work as a traveling sales man for the Hapgood Plow Company
while living in Apple River. The compnay office was in Alton, IL. By 1870
Joseph and Lucy moved to Alton, IL. JOSEPH PENN BLACK's obit in the Alton,
IL newspaper on March 3, 1900 states that he was survived by his wife and
6 children, that he and one of his sons purchased the Hapgood Plow Company
around 1873 and that he was a Mason. No metion of his parents or siblings.
An elder family member beleives that Joseph's fathers first name was Benjamin.
My father said that we were Pennsylvania Dutch. JOSEPH PENN BLACK was my
great grandfather. Any help you can give on providing a lead to JOSEPH
PENN BLACK'S parents and siblings would be appreciated.
