The following was published in the Houston Chronicle newspaper, Houston,
Texas on 5 August 2000. Please note I am not related to this person and
I do not have any additional information.

BLACK
LAWRENCE JACOB BLACK, born January 22, 1934 in Modesto, California, died
August 1, 2000, from complications due to diabetes, after a long and courageous
battle. Larence graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. and M.S.
degrees in Petroleum Engineering. He worked in the oil business for 35
years, first with Shell Oil Company and then Celeron Corporation. He was
a serving elder at Saint Thomas Presbyterian Church. Lawrence was a loving,
caring husband and devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by Anne
POWELL BLACK, his wife of 45 years; son Lawrence Jacob BLACK., Jr.; daughter
Lydia Anne RABER and husband Brian; grandchildren Elizabeth Anne and Samuel
Raymond BLACK; and step-grandchildren MacKenzie and Bryce RABER; nephew
John BLACK and his children Joey and Stephanie; and niece Deborah JOHNSON
and her son Christopher. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents
Herbert and Rose BLACK and brother Herbert BLACK, Jr. A memorial service
will be held Monday, August 7, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas Presbyterian
Church, 14100 Memorial Drive (281-497-4846). Visitation will be at the
family home Sunday, August 6, from 3-5 p.m.
