Has anyone come across information on Joseph Penn Black in Jo Daviess
Co. IL.? I am tring to find the names of his parents and siblings. I
have found him and his wife in the Wis. State Census of 1855 with 3
other males and 1 other female. I have also found him and is family in
Jo Daviess Co, IL in the 1860 census. He married Lucy Jane Dimmick of
Apple River, IL. in White Oak Springs, Wis. in 1854. They had 6
children as follows: George Albert born 1855 in Wis., Leonora born 1858
in Wis., Joesph P. Jr. born 1860 in IL., Harvey or Harry born 1862 in
IL., Benjamin Edwin (my grandfather) born 1865 in IL., and Lucy born
1873 in IL. Joseph Penn Black was listed as a farmer in Wis. and as a
traveling salesman for the Hapgood Plow Company in IL. I have a copy of
his obit. from the March 3, 1900, Alton IL., newspaper which mentions
his wife and children but no parents or siblings which leads me to
believe they died long before he did. The 1860 IL. census mentions that
his father was from KY and mother from Ohio. I have a lot of info. on
Joseph, Lucy and children but none on Joseph's parents, brothers or
sisters. I have tried to get a copy of his death record through the
state of IL and Madison Co. and have found that none was recorded. I
know Joseph was a Mason and was married in an Episcopal ceremony, but
don't know where to find if there might be sources of information
there. Any information I can get on Jospeh Penn Black prior to 1854
would be helpful. Respond to Mary Black,
