Hello all....
I am looking for a needle in a haystack! While I was in Three Rivers,
Michigan doing some research I came across this article that I found in the
Three Rivers Library which reads:
Mrs. Smith of Portland, Oregon, is visiting with Whit BLACK, her brother whom
she had not met in 40 years--The Tribune--September 5, 1890
The Whit referred to in the article is actually Joseph Whitney BLACK who was
born in March 1830 in NY and died April 15, 1902, in Lockport Township, Three
Rivers, St. Joseph County, Michigan. He went by his middle name Whitney and
was often called Whit.
He was the son of Joseph W. BLACK b. abt. 1897 in PA? and Nancy GARDNER.
Joseph W. BLACK also married Sarah E. DICKERSON b. 1826 in MA. However, I
would tend to think that this Mrs. BLACK SMITH would be the daughter of
Joseph and Nancy vs. Joseph and Sarah.
Do any of you have any BLACKs who ended up in Portland, Oregon who married a
SMITH? As I said, I'm looking for a needle in a haystack.
Thanks,
Colleen
