Subject: [BLACK-L] William Black, Ireland to America
Date: Mon, 5 Jul 1999 10:52:57 EDT
Does anyone know whether Thomas Osborne
Black, b. abt. 1752 NC/SC, d. abt. 1831 Hancock
Co., KY, m. Sophia Gassoway Springs abt. 1777,
links to "Wm. Black, Ireland to America"? Our limited
info suggests he does.
Supposedly "our" Blacks emigrated from Ireland
with Gillespies and Osbornes to PA in the relevant
time period and portions of all 3 families went south
togethor to the Carolinas before the Revolution.
Our source kind of thought that Thomas Osborne
Black was a grandson of a Thomas Black who had
married Martha Gillespie. "poodles" data says this
immigrant was really named William. Our same source
named Thomas Osborne's parents as Wm. Black and Mary
Osborne. Does anyone know whether that is accurate?
Any/all help will be much appreciated.
We have substantial info available on Thomas Osborne
and Sophia Gassoway Springs Black's descendants
if anyone is interested. Also, have data on Sophia's
Springs' line going back to early New Amsterdam. We
think she also descended from Nicholas Gassaway in early
VA but don't know exactly how. Info on that also would be
most welcome. Mary G. in NJ
