Hello: I am searching for info on my g-grandfather, Jessie Black. What I
know about him is that he married 2nd to Mary Jane Ayer and had 1 child,
Alice Elizabeth Black on December 12, 1904 In Lancaster SC. He was,
according to my grandmother, a carpenter that moved throughout the state. I
have no idea who his 1st wife was, however, I do know that a Henry, Folsie,
Bill and Vonce were children of the 1st marriage. During the 1st marriage he
was a police officer in Bamberg SC where he originated from. I located what
appears to be his death record, however, his son (Henry)who completed it,
listed him as a widower and his spouse being Alice. I can only assume that
was his 1st wife. His parents were listed simply as Doc Black and his
mother's name as unknown. My grandmother is still living, however, she
refuses any further info on the father. Apparently he was very mean to her
as she was growing up and she left home at the age of 15 to get married (she
is 94 now). If anyone can give me pointers on how to question her without
upsetting her, it would be appreciated. She is very sharp mentally being her
age. If anyone can connect to this family it would be appreciated!!!
Another brick wall!! Thanks, Lynn Homan
