Hi Jackie,
I do have some info on Neeland/Neyland Black b ca. 1806 m Nancy Carver 3
Nov 1836 in Decatur Co., Georgia. Incidentally, I have seen his name
spelled Kneeland also!

Neyland and Nancy are in the 1840 U. S. Census, Decatur Co., Ga., p. 13;
1850 Effingham Co., Ga., p. 354; and 1860 Effingham Co., Ga., p. 6.
Children listed:
1. Jane Black, b. 1938
2. James Black, b. 1840
3. Henry J. Black, b. 1846

It is possible from Nancy's age that she could have had children right up
to
1865. She would have been only 43 when your Thomas Marion Black was born
in 1858. I don't know whether they stayed in Effingham County after 1860
or moved. If you find them in a 1870, 1880 census, please let me know! I
can't recall looking for them past 1860.

I guess an 1880 soundex of Henry J. Black, b. 1841 (would be age 39) and
James Black b 1846 (would be age 34). Also a Confederate soldier's record
for both of them. It would give a clue as to which county was their
home county...and a place to research.

I'll make a note to check on this family next research trip and if I find
anything I will let you know. Incidentally, if Neyland is in your line we
are related as his brother Douglas Black was my gggf.

Be in touch.

Barbara

I have not worked on this line in some time and frankly this was as far as
I got. There are some good research clues in the above information and I
do plan to work on this line again soon.
