Looking for parents and descendants of George B(radley) Black b ca 1825 PA
or OH d Appleton, WI Feb 1895 m 1) Mary Jane Huston Nov 1847 Tuscarawas
Co., OH; m2) Mary Ann Morris Smith, widow of Nelson Smith.
George with Mary Jane have Clara b 1848 OH and Alden Decatur b 1850 OH d
1926 Mason Co., IL (my grandfather).
Children by his second wife, Mary Jane Morris Smith, were: William G. b
1857 OH, Rufus b 1858, Henry N. b 1863, Mary b 1874 Mason Co., IL and
(Silas) Bradley b 1876 Mason Co., IL d 1936 Saline Co., MO.
Clara Black b 1848 OH marries 1) Stephen E. Bickford 2) Richard Verbycke.
Her children: George, Mamie, Maude, Laura - all Bickfords. Maude Bickford
married a Clark and was living in Colorado somewhere around the Colorado
Springs/Denver area in 1911.
William G., Black was a widow, living in Appleton, WI in 1893.
Ellen (Ella, Lizzie B., or Lizzie E.) Black marries John Hulbert and has a
son, John Bradley Hulbert. She then marries 1885 William J. Holtzclaw and 2
known sons, Rudolph and Sidney; she then marries John Braxton Fletcher who
dies in 1901 and is buried in Saline Co., MO.
Henry N. Black is in Appleton, WI 1893 and his wife's name is Susie.
Mary Black marries Michael James and has a son, Willie b 1889 WI; she may
have then married W. E. Claycomb living 1920 Kansas City.
Bradley marries Lillie Josephine Claycomb, children are: Marvin b 1902;
Virginia b 1912 and Audrey b 1914. Virginia and Audrey were both teaching
school in 1936 in Iowa. Marvin Black is listed as a Helper Hotel Baltimore
Hotel, KC.
George first appears in Tuscarawas County Ohio Court Records:
"George Black a minor who sues by his next friend and guardian ad Litem
Stephen D. Black vs James Chapman. Assumpit Dam. $600.00. Summons issued
16 May 1842 returned "defendant" not found" Alias Summons issued 22 June
1842." information extracted.
Black, Stephen D., 1850 Tuscawaras Co., OH Mortality sched. 32yr b PA d May
Lung fever, occupation drover, Sandy Township. 1850 Tusc. Co. Mortality
schedule. TQ4:4:29; Stephen D.'s probate pocket does not exists. From the
Minutes book for the courts payments were made to:
Gilbert Black, D. W. Black, J. W. Black, George and another unnamed
individual. Is it possible that the gentlemen were brothers? Would like to
locate these individuals in census in later census. They are not found
buried in Tuscarawas Co., OH.
By 1876 George B. is in Mason Co., IL; 1886 he is believed to be in
Lawrence Co., KS; in 1893 he is in Janesville, WI. He was a physician and
sometimes traveled with his son, William G., who is also a physician. I
have seen announcements of their coming to a city in Wisconsin. William G.
may also have a son that is a physician.
Any information would be appreciated.
