I do not have info on decendants of James McKnitt Black, but I may have his
ancestors. I have a James M. Black born in Southern Delawarein the late
1700s. I do not have a good birth date for him. His father was a John
Churchill Black (d. 1836 in Sussex Co. DE). His mother's name was
Elizabeth, possibly McKnitt. I do know that an Elizabeth (Betsey) McKnitt
married a Black, but there are many Elizabeth Blacks so I am not certain.
I also know that some of the Delaware Blacks moved to Boone Co. KY. I am
aware of a gravestone in Boone Co of Geo. W. Black born in Delaware, born
Nov 9, 1774, died Nov 8th 1858.
I have a great many Blacks in Delaware from about 1730 through 1900 and I
have been able to connect most of them to the same ancestors. I have
thought that this George W. Black must be connected to my family in DE, but
have not yet been able to confirm it.
Do you have any more information on the Blacks or McKnitts in Boone Co or
do you know of any connection to Delaware?
Regards,
Jim Black
