Thank you so much for sending the info today. Did I send you the Crocket
story and the Berry family. The Berry and Black families seemed pretty
close. There are also Berry's and Blacks in Kentucky. I will send more
Black/Berry/Devore info or at least the documented stories. They often
fought side by side.

I would love the story of Callahan county, TX. Please send it.

I found this little bit of info on the Callahan name.
Origin: Irish and an English transformation of Callaghan (which will be
useful when doing further research.)
Famous Callahans: Patrick Henry Callahan (1865-1940) of Ohio instituted
profit sharing in his Louisville Kentucky, varnishing company in 1915.

Callaghan is derived from the Gaelic name O'Ceallagchain, meaning
"descendant of Ceallanchan" which is derived from words meaning
contention and stife. The Scottish is Callendar or Callam meaning rock
or coming from Callendar.

Beard is English meaning beard. The name was given to those with beards
or came from Beard, a place in Derbyshire, England, the name of which is
derived from the Old English word "brerd", meaning brim.

Black is English, Irish, Jewish, Scottish.
English: transformation of Blanc(h). English, Scottish: 1) derived from
the Old English words "blac", and "bloec" meaning black. The name was
usually given to those with dark complexions. 2) derived from the Old
English word "blac", meaning fair-or light-skinned. Irish, Scottish:
transformation of Duff. Jewish:transformation of Schwarz.
Famous Blacks: Jeremiah S. Balck (1810-1883) of Pennsylvania was US
Attorney General. Greene V. Black (1836-1915) was a dentist and author
of dental books. James Black (1823-1893) of Penn founded the National
Prohibition Party.
