Subject: [BLACK-L] How I got started...

I am now 45 years old. Even as a child I was interested in our family and
can remember writing letters to an aunt in Kentucky (dictated by my mother)
when I was just a wee thing! I always knew a good deal more about my mom's
family than my dad's and had a lot of cousins in the same town so I am sorry
to say I missed a lot of opportunities when I was younger to learn many
things. We all take so much for granted!
When I married my husband we moved from Indiana to West Virginia and it
didn't take me long to realize just how important one's family is!
Off and on over the years I would make attempts to gather information but
would give up at stone walls. My husband and I became members of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the early 80's and I made a few more
attempts at research but again gave up at the stone walls. Finally a couple
of years ago I got down to some serious business and started writing and
calling and found a terrific library with lots of information available and
things just started falling into place! I also am on the staff of our local
family history center and so I was able to spend a lot of time checking over
the Ancestral File and the IGI. In just a little over two years I have
accumulated almost 4,000 names and have "met" several distant relatives on
both my side and my husband's side of the family. I have been greatly
blessed in my endeavors to search out our ancestors and I hope to continue
this work for many years to come.
On my side my main lines are BLACK, CONN, HELDERBRAND, and THOMPSON; on my
husband's side the main lines are GILLLIAM, BEECHAM (no info here yet!),
ADAMS and HOLST.
