Subject: [BLACK-L] word of the week...census info
Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 20:59:27 PDT

NOTE: PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE IN ITS ENTIRITY!!!

This week's phrase is "census information" :) What I mean by this is if
you have any info at all on your line pertaining to the list that you
found from either the census itself or from an index, send it to the
list. Please include as much as possible, especailly Names, County and
State and (Township if given), Date, Page number (if you have that
down), and then the census info itself (If you are giving info from an
actual census and not from an index). Also, if possible, please give
any other info, such as roll #, Enumeration district, etc. You should
know that this info is going to eventually go onto the rootsweb page
below when I get the time. Also, if you have census info for a surname
not pertaining to any of my lists (or a surname for one of my lists you
are not subscribed to), send the info to me privately and I will add
that to the page as well. If you have info on allied families, feel
free to post that as well, but be sure to tell how they are related
(something that some of you have forgotten lately). I was at my local
genealogy library today and did get some new census info which I will
post to the page and also send to the list hopefully this week if I can
find the time. The new info is for HACKET(T), a few BLACK, COVENTRY
(most of it), and one BRADFORD. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not send
info from the Family Tree Maker census CD's. They are copyrighted and
explicitly say not to do that with their information. When I say Census
Indexes, what i'm referring to are 1. books that are indexes (at most
family history centers or genealogy libraries) or microfilm soundex
indexes, etc. I don't want to violate any copyright laws so don't send
that info unless someone specifically asks you if a certain person is
listed.

FOR NEWBIES: The way the "word of the week" works is I throw out a
topic and if someone has a line that falls into that topic, then they
are *supposed* to post it, unfortunately though, I think the majority of
the lists are lurkers, so not everyone really does. (I have no problem
with lurkers by the way, they just shouldn't expect to find their info
passively, they may be lucky that way, but they need to get active on
the list to find their lines sooner). For instance, this week, if you
have any census information like described above, post it to the list.

IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE:
To post your line, do NOT just hit "reply" to this message, because I am
not the list, just the listmaster!:) Start a clean message with the
"To" address as where "SURNAME" is the name of
the list (ex: , etc.) Also, do NOT send them to
as the "-request" address is ONLY for
subscribe and unsubscribe to the list and nothing more.

Good luck everyone, and please note that the CAPS and the "!!!!" above
are only for emphasis, not shouting:)
