My earliest know Black ancestor is William Black, born Nov. 20, 1768,
married Frances Hill Dec 30, 1806 in Williamson Co., TN. Frances's father
was Spencer Hill. Their only son (I believe) was Col. Thomas Hill Black,
born in 1807 in Tennessee, perhaps Williamson County. He removed to Bedford
County and at age 19 was elected lieutenant of the militia. He was
subsequently promoted to captain, and then in his 26th year to major, and
later to colonel. He married Mary Love Byler abt. 1829 in Bedford Co. TN
and served in the Tenn. legislature for four successive terms. In 1849 he
moved to Izard County, Ark. where he served as county and probate judge
until he retired from active public life.
His son, Dr. James Knox Polk Black was born in Bedford Co., TN, and was one
of the leading and most successful physicians of Izard County.
Other children and their descendants spread out to Baxter, Marion, Union AR;
Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Calif.
