Hi Rooters,

I am responding to the word of the week and to Deb's message about Mitchell
Black.

First, I saw both of Deb's recent messages re Mitchell, and I am afraid
that I do not really understand the apology. Perhaps Deb can explain
further.

Anyway, I have focused my research on the BLACK family from Sussex Co.
Delaware (near Milford). Mitchell is one of the more unusual names (lots
of George, Wm. John, James, Sarah, Mary Joseph). Mitchell was one of
twelve children of George Black (d. Feb 1772 in Sussex Co. DE).

This Mitchell (d. Dec. 1774 in Sussex Co. DE) in my line was married to
Sarah Smith (d. Feb. 1775 in Sussex Co. DE). They had 4 or 5 children,
Ann, Nancy, Wm., George & Jean. Ann and Nancy may be one person using a
first name sometimes and a middle name at other times. There seemed to be
a bit of that going on back then. I have not further info on Mitchell's
children. I suspect that they moved from Delaware. But where?

So far I have had little luck tracing the movements of these Blacks to
other areas of the US. I suspect that the family groups in NC, KY and AL
may be connected, but no one has been able to point to DE as the place
where their ancestors came from.

I do know of a Black in KY who had Mitchell as a middle name. The details
on this are burried in my files, but if anyone sees a contact I dig it up.

If anyone can point to a BLACK in DE, let me know.

Jim Black
