My Most Unusual Way to Find Information

My Great-Grandmother Ann was married twice in Botetourt County, VA. Her
first husband, James, disappearred around the time of the Civil War.
The story that was passed down through our generations was that he had
went to another county and started a second family. On her second
marriage license, it states that she had him declared legally dead as no
one had heard from him in over seven years. Thank goodness, as my
grandmother is the only child of this second marriage.

In Botetourt County, Va. web site I found someone looking for a
man,John, who disappeared while serving in the CSA. He had the same
last name and lived in the same area as my Great-grandmother Ann's first
husband. Just for fun, I e-mailed a message that he must be related to
my James, as he had also disappeared. It sounded like a family trait.

What happened? The man who disappeared during the war was my
Great-Grandmother Ann's first husband, James. I now have found
relatives of her first set of children. I hope to soon have a picture
of my Great-grandmother Ann that I never knew existence.

Moral of the story: You can find information anywhere by all kinds of
methods.
