Hi everyone,
I already had some information that led us to the Oakwood Cemetery in
Bucyrus, Ohio. There we found the huge marker of my gg grandfather. t We
like to take some
flowers with us to put on graves that have not had visitors in years. Makes
us feel better.
Anyway when we stood by the grave site I commented that here were some
plastic flowers on the grave already. We thought this strange since he died
in 1885
(John Porter Black) born in Dillsburg, Pa. in1813
So with the knowledge that someone else was interested in this family name I
decided
to put our name address and telephone number in a plastic bag and stuck one
of the
metal flower stems through the bag to secure it.
Within weeks we had a letter from the persons. They were from the same Black
family and they invited us to their home to copy the extensive family
records that they had.. I hauled a copy machine to their house and copied
for hours. Great material that I did
not have previously. The next day they took use to their daughter's house
where waiting for us were about 20 boxes or bags . We were also able to view
family heirlooms that had been passed down. A wonderful two days with great
rewards.
Sorry this is so long!
