For :
Adeline BLACK is my only BLACK so far.
This is what I know about her:
She was married in Carroll Co. GA in 1832.
The 1850 and 1860 census state she was born in GA.
>From the 1820 GA census I find the following could have been Adeline's
family:
Hall Co. - David of Oliver TWP and Joseph of Capt. Byrd's District
Irwin Co. - James of Monticello TWP
Jackson Co. - John H.
Jefferson Co. - Robert of Louisville TWP
Putnam Co. - Richardson
Schreven Co. - John
Walton Co. - Robert
In the 1850 census of Cherokee Co. AL I found Jeremiah MURPHY (Adeline's
husband), Nathaniel BLACK (41) and Mortimer BLACK (35) (all born GA)
living within 8 households of each other. Adeline's second son was named
Mortimer. Adeline would have been around 37 at the time, so these two
BLACKs could have been brothers. Nathaniel and Adeline both had
daughters named Lucy; Adeline and Mortimer both had sons named James.
Adeline's husband, Jeremiah MURPHY, was a bricklayer, so Adeline
probably came from a city family, not a farming family.
There seem to be a lot of people with dead ends in GA. I hope we can
get more GA data online and on microfilm so we can clear past GA. Maybe
as we all work together we can find our lost relatives in GA.
