I am researching these Black families, as yet unconnected, Both my
paternal and maternal great-grandmothers were named BLACK and lived in
adjoining countiesin the 1870's, so it may be only one family back a
generation or two.

1. ALEXANDER FRIERSON BLACK b 1829? MS?, came to Freestone Co. TX
1850-51, m Lucinda Green 1855. They had 10 children (and 72
grandchildren). Their only dtr., MARGARET JANE BLACK, is my great
grandmother. She married MADISON H MCCANLIES 1878 in Navarro Co. TX; and
the eldest of their 15 children, Jesse P McCanlies is my grandfather.

Alexander F Black had a brother, BENJAMIN BLAIR BLACK b Oct 1808 KY, who
also came to Freestone Co., TX from Calhoun Co. AL in 1850-51 and had a
large family of Blacks (11 children, 73 grandchildren, mostly males) He
married Rachel Berry & Jane Little in AL.

2. I have an old BLACK FAMILY BIBLE that lists children of these 3
brothers:
WILLIAM F. BLACK b 1810 KY, Lived Marengo Co. AL & Bossier Parish LA, m
Rhoda S Hylton 1845 Marengo Co. AL. Chn.: W.C.H.(male), John B, Alonzo
Byron, Mary, who came to Anderson Co. TX by 1870.

THOMAS C BLACK b 1814-17 TN, Lived Marengo Co. AL, m Lydia Harrison b
1814-1818 SC, married in AL abt 1845, came to Anderson Co. TX Dec 1850.
Children: Nathaniel, Martha, Amanda.

JOSEPH M BLACK b 1829 AL, Lived Marengo Co. AL, m Letha Ann O'NEAL, Jun
1850, came to Anderson Co TX Dec 1850, 7 children of which MARY
ELIZABETH BLACK b 18 Dec 1853 is my great-grandmother, she married JOHN
B CAMPBELL in 1873 and they had 12 children in Anderson Co. TX. AMANDA
B CAMPBELL (#5) was my grandmother, she married Albert J. McFarlane in
1904.
