Am searching for a German Black family who also went by the name of Swartz
and who lived in Frederick and Shenandoah Co, VA. These include a Martin
Black who died in Frederick Co, VA before 1742 and left an orphan John
Black who was placed in the guardianship of George Keller.

There was another Martin Black who died in Shenandoah Co, VA and whose will
was recorded in book I, p. 60 and listed under Martin Swartz (Both names
were used at different times) and whose wife was Mary Eve Sommers, daughter
of George Sommers. His will which was proved 11 Mar 1816 named his son as
Jacob Swartz, John Swartz, Peter Swartz. His daughters were Elizabeth wife
of John Hottel, Ragel Swartz, Catharine wife of Andrew Coffman, and
Catharine (?) wife of Jacob Miller. Witt: Samuel R. Bader, John Swartz, and
Abraham Crabill.

The above Black/Swartz families lived on Toms Brook which was in Frederick
County but became Dunmore Co, in 1772 and the name was changed to
Shenandoah Co, VA in 1778.

I have done only little research on any of these families, but my interest
is primarily because a Margaret Black married a Frederick Mauck probably in
the early 1770's. Frederick was a son of Peter Mauck who also lived on Toms
Brook. We have been trying to find the parents of Margaret Black and
believe she may have been a sister to the Martin Black who was married to
Mary Eve, and a Peter and John Black who also lived in the area.

There was another early Black by the name of Henry who lived in the same
area, on Toms Brook and I am wondering if he may be the same Henry Black
who was living in Rockingham Co, VA in 1784? I also have will abstracts for
a John Swartz with wife Susanna which was proved 11 Aug 1817 and for Peter
Swartz whose wife also was a Susannah and which was proved 11 Mar 1816.

Would like to find someone who may have knowledge of any of these families
or who are researching any of these Shenandoah Valley, VA Black/Swartz
families and who is able to put the various family groups together. Would
also like to know their origin before moving to Virginia.

I am also searching for an Adam Black or Schwartz who was living in Rowan
Co, NC in the late 1700's and who had a daughter by the name of Catharine
who married a John Mock.
