Buck,
I have been doing research for along time too. I have about the
same the Lawrence History, and made contact with Glenda Doutt and Jean
Klien,
and I am work in the family history LDS LIBRARY and I help others get
started
in doing research, that need help and want to do. There are a lot of people
want
help in using the personal ancestor file.

I have some more information, but maybe not all at once. I going to be
little
more busy doing the summer. But I well get it to you as time goes on.

It is interesting to find so many people searching and surprising
who we find out we are related to. I was 12 years when I join the Mormon
church. From that time I started ask question about my own family. I've
got alot of info over the years which has been about 40 years and I don't
consider my self a professinal. Put I like see where we fit in and the
history that comes with it. I do make errors goofs so but that all goes
with it.
Except where I can find the proof it is good. And there are a lot of dates
and
relatives that just somthing. But we continue to search and search. Why do
you
do it, is it a hoppy or somethings? Mind religist reason. that all for
that.
The children of John & Lady (Tolliver) Curnutte ( this is according too
Paul
Dyer. And I copied this from someplace and I didn't put where I found this
page.)

All the children were born in Ireland
1. John Tolliver, ca 1774
2. Elisha " 1776
3. Martin 1778 never married
4. Reuban Curnutte 1780 m. Kessiah ?????
5. Sarah Curnutte 1782 ( found no married record)
6. Nancy 1785 "
7, James Curnutte 1787 d. Montgomery Co. Va
M/ Sarah........... d. 1817, Grayson, Va.
Reference came from David Curnutte.

I have the John Tolliver's listings ( the s/o John and Lady ) but if you
have this info. then there is no need.

I have a lot of information from Glenda Doutt, Donnie Noel, Harris Chaffin,
& Imogene Weisner.

If you have the samething than I won't send it to you. And I have lot that I
would gladly send or give to someone. That I not need. I have throw good
info away. Thank it might help someone.

If this helps you let me know. Doris

Doris:

I too am very busy, but did want to get back with you.

In the above data you mention:

7, James Curnutte 1787 d. Montgomery Co. Va
M/ Sarah........... d. 1817, Grayson, Va.

Do you have any source data that confirms that this James is the same James
that was the brother of John TOLLIVER? Sarah is burried in the homeland of
the CORNETTS.

I also have the following:

Time Line

1727 James Cornutt born (that married Sarah)
1750Born about this time (1773 minus 20).
25 Jan 1773Indenture maed in Cumberland County, VA sold 50 Acres
to Joseph Homesly, names wife Sarah.
1796 James dies.
1819 Sarah, wife of James, dies.
1822Aggatha, daughter of James and Sarah, creates a Power
of Attorney to son David Chafin. The power of
attorney is written in Lawrence Co., Sarah is dead at
this point, and burried in Grayson Co., VA Cornett
cemetery

The following is a transcription from "They Came from Iron Mountain", by John
C. Cornett, 1983, p.10-11.

....James Cornutt (sic) who died in Montgomery County in 1796 (Deed bk B-235)
and his wife Sarah.
Mr Clark believes that James Cornutt was born ca 1727. We know that
this James Cornutt (Sic) died in Montgomery JCounty in 1796 and that his
personal property was appraised and made a part of the January 1797 Court
records in Montgomery County and after his death, the land went to David
Curnutt, John Hatfield, and others. Sarah Cornett, his wife later went to
Grayson County and eventually lived with either James or David until her
death in 1819. Mr. Clark says that sarah is burried along side James and
Molly, in the Cornett cemetery on Elk Creek which is located on the home
place of James Cornutt (1750-1824)and the same cemetery where Archelous and
John Cornutt are buried. So there must have been close ties between James
Cornutt (1750-1824) and Sarah, the wife of James Cornutt (1727-1796) to be
buried in the Cornett cemetery. When James died 5 years later, in 1824, he
chose to be buried along side Sarah, who probably was his mother. Just
another note on Sarah Cornutt. She is listed as a god parent of an Amy Ivey,
born on February 15, 1759 to Adam and Mary Ivey (Abermarle Parish Register of
George and Sussex Counties, Virginia 1739-1770. So this entry in the church
record would indicate that she lived in the area where it is believed that
the Cornetts came from and that she was already married to a Cornutt/Cornett
in 1759......
Mr. Clark also believes that the father of James Cornutt (1727-1796) was
a John Cornett (ca 1702-1772) that lived in Henrico County Virginia.....

p.11 .....The Montgomery County William was the father of James Curnutt
who married Elizabeth DeWitt in 1792 and didn't hesitate to go back to court
and have his recorded name James Curnute (sic).

Questions:

1. Who was John Hatfield.
2. Where was this land? Might it have been in the new river area of what is
now Grayson Co.?
3. From other records, Aggatha married Simon Chafin. Who was Simon's
parents?

Does anybody have a copy of the court record where James changed his name to
CURNUTE?

Here is the power of Attourney:

I would really like additonal data that shows how this family is tied to the
CORNETTs/CANUTEs of Grayson Co., or the CURNUTTEs of Lawrence Co., KY.

Can anybody help. Anybody have additional data on the John Hatfield, an
heir?
