Hi:
This WELCOME message is being sent as we now have a new mail list server.
Any new subscriber will get a message similar to the one below. I tried to
keep it short and to the point. About 1,000 mail lists have been moved.
Sorry for the delay and inconvience.
Well, looks like the BLACK list has a double whammy. I was hoping that
someone would take ownership of this list and no one did. I did NOT want it
to die, so you now have a new admin, me. If you would like to become the
admin., please contact me and I'll help you do it. Otherwise, lets get on
with our BLACK genealogical research and hope that this new mail list does
the job for us.

There is a lot of important information in this message, including

this list. I'll be glad to help you if you have problems, but I'll also
be frank: If you don't have time to read this message and learn the
proper way to use lists, you shouldn't be subscribed. Please take just

You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will
receive every posting made to BLACK as a separate e-mail. The directions on
how to change to digest mode are given below.
1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd
not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance,
if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you
want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to
.
3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and
sent to you together as a single large message). There are two
steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to
to discontinue mail mode. Second,
send the command "subscribe" to
to start receiving digests.
4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode.
All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe
when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them
to start again, simply subscribe again.
5.Any message sent to will then be sent on to everyone
in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
While I in no way want to stifle free discussion, as list owner I reserve
the right to step in if a flame war erupts that becomes tedious for other
subscribers, or if someone becomes unseemly (excessive use of profanity, for
instance).
If you have a personal message for someone, please send it to their
address, not the list server address.
