Subject: [BARRINGER] Theft of documents
Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 13:46:23 -0700 (PDT)
Hello all. Although this is not specific to the surname lists, it is very
important genealogy wise. For those of you on more than one list of mine, I
apologize for the cross posting.
As I think many of you know, I work at the State Library of NC. We get notices
from time to time from other libraries across the state and this is one we just
got of a theft that just occured this past weekend. PLEASE help spread the
word so everyone is aware of these documents and can report them to the police
if they see anything about them, perhaps on ebay or something. If you wish to
post to your rootsweb lists, send it to the moderator instead at
(such as ) as some
moderators don't want anything not related specifically to that list posted.
Let the moderators decide if it should be posted.
This has been sent out to groups involved in libraries and archives, but we
need to get this out to groups involved in genealogy as well. If this
individual sells the items, it will probably be intended towards genealogists
rather than libraries or archives who may already know of the theft and report
them.
A reminder, these documents are the property of the state of North Carolina so
if anyone purchases them and it is later found out, they can be charged for the
purchasing of stolen goods.
