The information that you have is incorrect, however it has been stated as fact for so long that it's taken a life of it's own.
The Buffington's were a very prolific family in the Meigs County area. Two brothers, Joseph (married to Chloe Harvey) and William (married 2nd to Sarah Hughes) both had daughters named Elizabeth. For the longest time, it was belived that Elizabeth (d/o Joseph) had been married to Rueben Tubbs and that Elizabeth (d/o William) was the one who married William Barringer. It has also been believed that the William Barringer (s/o George Barringer) was the one who married Elizabeth. Your information takes that beginning line.
The actual story is this (based on obituaries and other records):
Elizabeth (1796-1889), d/o Joseph, was married to William Barringer (1790-1821). This William was the brother of George Barringer. Wm & Elizabeth married in February 1812. They had the following sons: Samuel (b 1812), Elisha (b 1815), Joseph (b 1817), and William Asa (b 1822). Note that Wm Asa was born after Wm Barringer's death. Obviously, Elizabeth was pregnant when Wm. Barringer died. There is some question over the daughters they had. Amanda was definitly a daughter (b 1820) but whether the 2nd daughter was Chloe or Susan is still at question (I tend to believe Chloe based on Elizabeth's mother's name). In any case, after Wm. died, Elizabeth married David Raridon in 1827 and had 4 more children. This information is born out by several obituaries including Elizabeth's and Elisha. Additionally, it is born out by a letter my grandmother received years ago. In it, the writer indicates that Uncle James Buffington and Nephew Elisha Barringer married 2 sisters, Eliz!
a Ann and Maria Sleeth. James Buffington did indeed marry Eliza Ann Sleeth (born out in their obituaries) and Elisha did marry Maria Sleeth (also born out in his obituary).
The rest of the information on Wm. Asa is correct. He did indeed marry both Margaret Cunningham and Annie Teeter and had a daughter Mary.
What about the other Elizabeth (d/o William)? She was the one married to Rueben Tubbs. As to the William, s/o George, at this point I don't know who he married.
Apparently when the original research was being done, some assumptions were made about the identies of the Elizabeth's and the William Barringer's.
