Geri--If you want to delve into your husband's genealogy, go to the
rootsweb.com website and start exploring. You'll find that there are
instructions there for beginning genealogists. What you'll learn is that
you must start with what you know, and work toward the unknown. Start
with the facts you have: your husband's birth date, place, and family.
Go to the records and find his parents and siblings--through birth
certificates, marriage licenses, death certificates--all found at the
county where they were issued.
If you want to go further back than that, then use the information
found on his parents records and trace back to where they were born and
start searching there. Before long, you'll be in the time frame to start
using the federal censuses, which are available through 1920. Get help
from your nearest Mormon family history center, where you can rent films
of the census and many other records. Browse the many genealogy sites on
the internet for more thorough instructions on how to proceed with
beginning your search. Good luck and have fun!
